Accomplished landscape painter Samiran Sarkar was born in 1972, Kolkata, India. He studied
at the Kolkata College of Art & Craft, and this year a solo exhibition was held at the Academy of Fine Arts. Kolkata, India. An intrepid traveller, he undertakes journeys to find locations that enthrall, the countryside of Bengal and the Himalayan Mountains. Sarkar is best known for his often bucolic scenes of rural life, including his own childhood village, as well as more dramatic scenes, such as his lustrous depictions of mountains and threatening skies. The artist holds his BA, Visual Arts, First Honours, Calcutta University. Select solo shows include Tagore Art Gallery; A.B.N. Amro Bank, ITC Center Kolkata; Siddhartha Art Gallery, Kathmandu, Nepal and Patan Museum, Darbur Square, Kathmandu, Nepal. The artist has also participated in a number of group shows, including the Birla Academy Annual Art Exhibition, Kolkata. Sarkar’s work is represented in a number of private and corporate collections worldwide. Adored for his sensitive depiction of the everyday and rural as well as the majestic gems of the natural world, Sarkar is an artist to collect.
